Production Supervisor/ Manager - Sheet metal


£35K - £40K (DOE)

Our client are a forward thinking Sheet metal manufacturing business who have recently seen large capital investment in the latest automation and equipment. The company are now focused on doubling the output in the next 3-5 years whilst maintaining / improving overall margins. This subcontract manufacturer supplies to a variety of sectors and has seen considerable growth in the last couple of years. This is the perfect time and opportunity to join the expanding business.

Job Overview

To manage the incoming of sheet raw material and communicating with purchasing on any stock requirements. Manage the automated stock handling and laser departments which are run on a double shift system to ensure parts are cut in line with the downstream/ customer requirements.

Manage the metal bending department which is run on a double shift system to ensure parts are formed in line with downstream/ customer requirements. The production manager MUST have experience of managing in a fast paced medium volume manufacturing environment where handling of multiple customer contracts/ components is the norm. Sheet metal knowledge would be very advantageous.

Managing 10-15 reports across 2 shifts.

Working in a fast paced modern sheet metal manufacturing business the primary objectives is to manage all the workforce safely and effectively whilst ensuring that the production targets are met with a strong emphasis on good quality.

To have a clear and accurate communication line to the Management team on a daily basis

Key Responsibilities

Production: Develop daily production plans against requirements

Deliver a daily production meeting to align all activities and from the business and to ensure the production plan is adhered too.

Maintain the appropriate number of personnel

Maintain correct skill set across the business with the correct number of skills per jobs.

Manage the quality of work

Ensure that all products are to a high standard and that all quality inspections are adhered too.

Draft and agree work standards

Maintain the ongoing process cycle to keep improving the current standards

Completion of all production documentation

Maintain all production documentation on a daily basis, including sign offs where required.

Manage employee's development.

Maintain skills versatility matrix to show current skill status and identify any potential gaps for the business.

Set operators daily tasks and confirm any support required from other areas.

To issue all operators with their daily activities and confirm if any support is required from other areas.

Workplace organisation (5S) Ensure that all production areas and safe clean and tidy with everything in its correct place and clearly labelled.

Fast changeovers from one batch of work to the next in the press brake department

SMED project to be introduced to significantly improve changeover times

Maintenance: Maintain daily standards of tooling and equipment cleanliness using lean manufacturing tool kit

Ensure that all tooling and equipment have detailed cleaning standards.

Identify service requirements and maintain schedule

Operations: Support in the day to day operations of the business.

To have a good understanding of all business aspects, also to run operations in the absence of the Manufacturing Manager with day to day decision making.

Manage the day to day delivery process to your customer the end user or the welding/ assembly department

To oversee to smooth running of the delivery's to downstream departments or customers.


  • Possess sheet metal manufacturing supervising and leadership experience with an emphasis on welding and fabrication process's
  • Have a sound understanding of lean methodologies and continuous improvement projects
  • Apprentice trained, time served Sheet Metal Worker
  • Experience implementing and maintaining of 5s and lean manufacturing
