Poppy Stahelin Q&A with the Examiner
Thursday, April 18, 2019
Poppy Stahelin is a director of Huddersfield Live. She organises, develops and delivers local events notably the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival and the Huddersfield Winter Festival in St George’s Square. Poppy is also an education recruiter and account manager at Huddersfield-based recruitment agency Stafflex.
What’s your business motto?
The Huddersfield Live motto is ‘Better Events Together’, sounds a bit cheesy but if we all work together then great things can be achieved. Personally, I use ‘Still like air, I rise’. If things don’t go to plan then try not to let it get to you.
How do you make contacts which are useful for business?
I prefer to meet with people face to face as you can’t always read the meaning of emails. Though having said that I have a full-time job alongside Huddersfield Live so it isn’t always that easy so I do a lot of emailing.
What makes your business different?
We are a not for profit events company who have the town at the heart of our business. We want to keep the town alive and kicking and make it a place that people enjoy living in! The events are run solely (on a voluntary basis) by my colleague Sam Watt and myself who do it alongside our other jobs. Hard work, but we love it!
What do you always have with you?
My whippet! Luckily Agnes the whippet is always welcomed into business meetings.
Do you dress-up or dress-down for business?
Usually we are smart casual, but when we are on site doing events its scruffs and steel toe boots!
